Steiner Stars Registration Policy

The Steiner Stars contract with the Steiner Ranch Community Association (who represents the SRROA and SRMA home owners organizations) to use the Bella Mar competitive pool for swim practices and meets each season.  According to the terms of the contract, Steiner residents are only allowed on the Stars teams, with the exception of non-resident families who where on the 2015 swim team(s), these residents are grandfathered in and will be given access to remaining spots not taken by residents as of the end of New Family Registration Event. Residents must be in good standing with the HOA to enroll with the Stars. Stars registration has traditionally occurred in March and early April, with practices beginning in May.  The Stars are a volunteer-run organization and require families to fulfill a minimum number of volunteer shifts each season in order to retain returning family status.  Although the same volunteer executive board operates the Stars Red and Blue, the Northwest Swim Circuit regards the teams as separate entities.  Therefore, a swimmer must practice and compete for one Stars team only, i.e. missed practices may not be made up during the other team's practice hours.

Eligible swimmers must meet minimum swimming ability requirements and must be between 5 and 17 years of age as of May 1st of swim season.  It is expected that each swimmer will participate in a minimum of three swim meets per season.

Resident: To be classified as resident, registrants must have closed on their Steiner homes by the date of new family registration.  During returning and new family registration, each registrant is checked through the Community Association office to ensure that the resident is currently in good standing with the HOA.  The Community Association will notify residents of issues that may prevent them from completing the registration process.  Star swimmers must be registered by a parent or legal guardian residing in Steiner Ranch to be classified as residents.

Grandfathered non-resident families:  In 2016, the HOA required that the Stars only allow residents on the team.  HOA did give us permission to allow the non-resident families who participated in the 2015 season to be able to continue on the Stars, allowing them to return each year still following the policy of registering at New Family Registration and be automatically waitlisted until the end of registration event to obtain spots that remain.

Returning swimmer/families:  A swimmer has the right to return to the same team (Red or Blue) during online returning family registration, providing that the family is in good standing with the HOA, the swimmer participated in the previous swim season, and the family has met volunteering requirements during the previous season. If the family of the swimmer(s) has not met volunteer requirements the previous season then the swimmer(s) may not return to either Red or Blue team for one year.

Younger siblings of a returning swimmer may be enrolled during the returning family registration period, providing that they are at least 5 years of age as of May 1 of that year and meet minimum swimming ability requirements.  Families may also request enrollment of older siblings during returning family registration.  These older siblings will be added to the wait list until all other qualified returning swimmers are registered and will be pulled onto the team if spots are available in their age groups.  Older siblings who have swum on the Stars previously but did not swim the previous year must reenter the team in this way.

              Registration Priority:

                     Returning Family Registration

                1. Returning resident, returning swimmer & Returning resident, additional younger sibling(s)
                2. Returning resident, older sibling(s)

                      New Family Registration

                1. New family, resident/Transfers between swim teams
                2. Grandfathered, non-resident

Transfers:  Transfers between teams are allowed but not guaranteed and subject to space availability. If you wish to transfer, Team Coordinators will contact you following returning family registration to confirm we have space for your swimmers on the new team. You will retain your spot on your current team if you are not able to transfer.

New family registration: The new family registration event is held on a Saturday, approximately two weeks following the completion of returning family registration. Approximately one week before new family registration, the number of available spots for each team and age group will be posted on steinerstars.org.  Due to demand in previous years, and to prevent families from feeling the need to be in line overnight to obtain spots, the Stars will post the registration location on steinerstars.org as of 6:00 AM on registration day.  Spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.  Registrants must pick either Red or Blue at the time of registration and may not wait-list for one team while obtaining a spot on the other.  One line will be formed at the registration location, and the registrant may pick a spot based on availability at the time they reach the registration table. Registrants obtaining spots will be instructed to register online and make payment within 24 hours to secure their spots.  Any non-residents that attend the new family registration event will be wait-listed until the end of the registration event and may obtain spots that remain at that time.  If spots are available after new family registration, online registration will be open for one month or until all spots are filled.
